When Amitabh Bachchan was pronounced "clinically dead" following an accident on the Coolie set
Via Roktim Rajpal Amitabh Bachchan, a famous actor from Bollywood, recently suffered an injury while filming an action scene in Hyderabad for the Prabhas-directed Project K. He wrote in his blog that he had a tear in his right rib cage and also mentioned that his rib cartilage had been harmed.
Yet, this is not the first time that Big B has suffered a serious injury while filming a movie. He received a very close to death injury in 1982 while filming Manmohan Desai's Coolie. Several admirers prayed for the Angry Young Man's safety as the incident brought the country to a standstill.
AS SOON AS BIG B WAS HURT DURING COOLIE
Amitabh Bachchan suffered a serious injury in 1982—nearly 40 years ago—while filming an action scene in Bengaluru for the movie Coolie starring Puneet Issar. Big B jumped at the wrong time, and his co-star unintentionally punched him in the gut, killing him. Big B quickly fell unconscious and was sent to Saint. Philomena's hospital for an urgent procedure. After that, he was transferred to Mumbai.
Big B was first deemed to be "clinically dead" despite having severe abdominal haemorrhage. Yet by injecting him with adrenaline, the medical professionals were able to revive him. While the actor was in the hospital, fans sent him letters written in blood. Leaders in politics also prayed for his recovery.
After eventually getting well, the actor finished Coolie.
The accident impacted the way the movie ended. Big B's character was supposed to pass away in the end, but the producers changed their minds.
AS SOON AS BIG B REMEMBERED THE INCIDENT
Big B revealed the incident in a blog post years later.
He wrote: "I almost fell into a hazy and coma-like state. I underwent a second surgery five days after entering Breach Candy, which I didn't recover from for several hours and during which I was declared clinically dead. Then, my doctor, Dr. Wadia, who has saved my life several times, just remarked, "I'm going to take a last chance," and he began injecting cortisone and adrenaline*about 40 ampules of it were injected into me one after another in the hopes that something would happen, and suddenly I was revived.
Returning to the present, Big B will pick up where he left off on Project K after his rib ailment has healed. He'll appear in the courtroom drama Section 84 as well.
